Help & FAQ

Quick answers about using StudyMate, plans and limits, and how to get support.

Frequently asked

How do I start using StudyMate?
Create a personal account from the sign-in page. If your school provides StudyMate, use the institutional sign-in with the email your institution registered for you.
What are course-specific answers?
When your school uploads course materials for a class, StudyMate uses them so answers match your course's scope and terminology. If a class has it enabled, answers can include a short “Referenced class material” line. Availability depends on what your institution sets up.
How does personalization work?
You can set how much detail and how many examples you want, choose a tone, and switch to step-by-step mode. You can also ask for a simpler explanation at any time.
Can my teacher see my chats?
For their assigned classes, teachers see aggregated topic insights and per-student support signals, and can view example/recent questions (your own messages, shown truncated). The dashboard doesn't show your full conversation history. Details are on the For Schools page and in the Privacy Policy.
Are answers always accurate?
No. AI can be wrong or incomplete. Verify important answers against your course materials and instructor, and report anything that looks incorrect or harmful. See AI Safety & Limitations.
I forgot my password.
Use “Forgot Password?” on the sign-in page to receive a reset link by email.

Plans, limits & access

Personal accounts start free with monthly limits on some advanced features. Paid plans raise those limits.

Free

Includes a monthly allowance of advanced responses, step-by-step responses, and AI-description chats. Limits reset each month.

Paid plans

Raise your monthly allowances. You can switch or cancel at any time, and manage billing from the plans page once signed in.

Institutional access

If your school provides StudyMate, your access is set by your institution — the personal plans page doesn't apply to you.

Reaching a limit: when a monthly allowance runs out, StudyMate tells you and points to the plans page (personal accounts). Your other study features keep working.
Access expiry: institutional access can end when your enrollment or your institution's arrangement ends. Personal paid plans continue until you cancel.

Report an incorrect or harmful answer

If an AI response seems wrong, misleading, or harmful, you can flag it while signed in. Open the chat, find the AI message, and use the Report action beneath it to choose a reason and add an optional note. Reports are sent for review; we keep only a reference to the message and your note, not a copy of your whole conversation.

If you believe you're in danger or a situation is an emergency, contact your local emergency services or a trusted adult at your school — StudyMate is not an emergency service.
